By Caroline Harris

On October 6th the Johnson Institute joined a robust community of educators, administrators, higher education institutions, and learning partners at the annual Alabama Council for the Social Studies conference.

The Johnson Institute presented during a in a breakout session to discuss the Institute’s work and was privileged to sponsor the day of peer learning and community networking. Executive Director, Thomas Rains, shared the history of our organization, impact of Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr, and avenues we are fostering constitutional education through history. The session led to insightful dialogue and piqued attendees’ interest in learning more about our work.

In addition to presenting, the Johnson Institute was one of several dedicated learning partners supporting students and educators with an exhibit table. The entire Johnson Institute team was delighted to meet and greet numerous attendees, as well as learn about programs that encourage citizenship, highlight Alabama’s rich history, and offer enriching opportunities for students and teachers.

All in all, it was an enjoyable day and we are looking forward to next year’s conference.
